Creative Brand Shoot for Colorado Musician Jo Fuller
THE VISION:
When Jo reached out, she wasn’t looking for traditional headshots. She was preparing to promote her new album and knew the visuals needed to feel like an extension of the music itself. Some songs were playful. Others were more stoic and introspective. Each carried a slightly different emotional tone — and she wanted her imagery to reflect that range.
THE STRATEGY:
Before we ever picked up a camera, we talked through:
The themes woven throughout the album
How she wanted her audience to feel
Where these images would live (streaming platforms, social media, promotional graphics)
From there, we built a visual direction that allowed her personality to show up in layers — playful in some frames, grounded and still in others.
THE EXECUTION:
She emphasized the importance of images that didn’t feel overly posed or polished. Because of that, I focused on interesting angles and thoughtful compositions rather than traditional framing with her smiling directly into the camera. We intentionally captured a mix of wide, mid, and dynamic shots so the final gallery felt like a story unfolding not just a collection of pretty pictures.
I also incorporated natural movement (flipping her hair, walking, swinging her dress) instead of placing her into overly “perfect” poses. This kept her loose and allowed the visuals to feel relaxed and honest. Lastly, we worked exclusively with natural light to maintain a raw, true-to-life quality that aligned with the tone of her music.
